Typically, mobile marketing means using a mobile device, such as a cell phone, to promote a product or brand. The possibilities seem endless. Consumers' mobile devices are always on - that means always available.
Ashley Furniture HomeStore understood the value of mobile marketing in a tough economy. Using a straightforward wireless marketing campaign, Ashley Furniture and their mobile marketing company cultivated permission-based instant message relationships with consumers. Among other sales and giveaways, they announced a One-Day Secret Sale via SMS and email. This 12-hour private event, which was only available to subscribers, generated $30,000 in just one day.
If that isn't proof of the power of mobile marketing solutions, look at what Papa John's was up to in 2008. The pizza company made excellent use of mobile marketing by introducing the world to their mobile ordering website. Through the website, consumers create accounts, listing their favorite orders and local delivery options. Once consumers have accounts, they can receive coupons, receive reminders, and even order pizza via text messaging through Papa John's SMS service. In less than six months, the pizza chain generated over $1 million in sales from this cell phone marketing strategy.
McDonald's used mobile marketing too, but not in the same way. McDonald's hired a mobile marketing company to hit the streets and establish a deeper connection with young adults in the spirit of their motto: "I'm lovin' it." The aggressive mobile marketing company equipped two hosts in a customized RV and sent them on a nation-wide tour. At 48 stops, the McDonald's hosts invited consumers aboard the branded RV, which was outfitted with flat screen TVs, leather couches, a rooftop deck, video games, wireless internet access, and a DJ mixing station. The results? McDonald's made 10 million consumer impressions; their website received 40,000 hits, and the campaign won the 2007 Ex Award for Best Mobile Marketing Program.
The Ex Awards, which are sponsored by Event Marketer Magazine, celebrate the best mobile marketing campaigns each year in more than 20 event marketing disciplines. Nokia, Wal-Mart, Motorola, and of course McDonald's are all recent winners.
Like the Ex Awards, The Mobile Marketing Association also honors mobile marketing campaigns with their own Global Mobile Marketing Awards.
For first-class mobile marketing solutions worthy of either award, companies must carefully select the best mobile marketing agency to fit their needs. Leading mobile marketing companies have a strong background in creating the perfect experience for any target audience. But with so many mobile marketing agencies offering services, knowing which to use can be difficult.
